Coronavirus Response: NATO delivers ventilators to Albania

On 28 December 2020, the Albanian Ministry of Defence received 60 sets of ventilator consumables donated by the NATO Pandemic Response Trust Fund.

This donation was coordinated by NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) and made possible with financial contributions by the Czech Republic, Lithuania, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

It complements a previous shipment of 60 ventilators to the Ministry of Health for use in four dedicated COVID-19 hospitals in Tirana and other regions in the country.

This support comes in response to Albania’s requests for international assistance through NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center. Additional equipment is expected to be delivered to Albania in the coming weeks.

NATO has established a stockpile of medical equipment and a Pandemic Response Trust Fund to provide immediate relief to Allies or partners in need. NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) manages the purchase and storage of relief items.

To date, Allies have approved nine assistance packages for four Allies: Albania, Czech Republic, Montenegro and North Macedonia, as well as for five partners, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iraq, Moldova, Tunisia and Ukraine. (
