The elections of August 30th represent a new opportunity for the Albanians in Montenegro, to affirm their political will and presence. Let’s not lose this opportunity.
It is important that every Albanian shows up and vote on that day. And they should vote for one of the two lists with Albanian parties.
Albanians have worked hard in the last decades to improve their rights as communities and as individuals. However, you can only go so far without full participation in the democratic process.
Albanians need to show their strength in numbers. A good number of members in the parliament will increase their negotiating power. They can get a better deal from whatever governing coalition comes out of the vote. Without a doubt, a large turnout by Montenegro Albanians will define their destiny toward the future. It will be better for the Albanian community and for Montenegro itself.
Despite the calls from the diaspora, the two lists could not unite in a common front. However, they should give another chance to joining their forces after the election. They can form a united parliamentary group.
Unity makes strength, says an old Albanian proverb.
So, get out there and vote! Vote for the Albanian lists! Tell your family and your friends – tell everyone – to vote too. And tell your elected representatives to unite.
A strong vote and a united front will make it easier for us in diaspora to support you in Washington.
I wish everyone the best!
