This campaign is designed to provide – for the first time in Albania – a playground that is suitable for children with special needs and abilities.
Living as a child with a disability in Albania often means exclusion from the basics of every day life: unable to play with others, unable to share, and even unable to cross streets. Official data show that 18,474 children in Albania live with disabilities, out of which 14,236 are from 0-15 years. Most of them are unable to interact normally with other kids, especially in playgrounds.
Currently in Tirana there is only 1 play site with minor equipment that is accessible for children with special needs.
This is why United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Albania, jointly with the Municipality of Tirana is launching the first crowdfunding campaign for the construction of an all-inclusive playground in Kombinat, Tirana.
Through this campaign we aim to:
Add playground equipment that caters to the need of special needs kids integrated with traditional equipment;
Create passive recreation facilities for adults;
Advocate for greater awareness towards equality of treatment for kids with special needs in joint areas such as playgrounds;
Create a chain effect in other communities, so that they organize from within and sponsor consequent playgrounds in their neighborhoods;
Have a look at our video to meet Elona, Andis and Florian and join us to help these kids find inclusion in social life.
