Victoria Ghilaga, wife to Skender Ghilaga since 1982 and mother of Emilie Alexandra Ghilaga died peacefully in her New York residence on Friday, November 18, 2016.
Victoria was born in Ontario, Canada to Dr. Anthony T. Wachna and Stephany Wachna. After graduating in 1970 from Western University in Ontario with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, she joined Pan American Airlines and traveled the world. She then settled in New York to work for the International Herald Tribune and Institutional Investor before embarking on a career in real estate in 1991 at Stribling & Associates where she became a senior vice president. In 1982, Victoria married Skender Ghilaga, American of Albanian origin and had a girl, Emilie Alexandra Ghilaga who is a brand Manager with Moda Operandi, a New York High Fashion E-Commerce Company.
Victoria was a true New Yorker but never forgot her Canadian heritage. Victoria loved tennis, travel, theatre and cooking and entertaining but her passion was the Opera and she was an avid Rangers fan.
She was devoted to charitable and community efforts such as the Southampton Fresh Air Home and as a representative of 72nd Street for the Second Avenue Subway Project.
Victoria is survived by her family Emilie and Skender Ghilaga, her sisters, Judy Martini and Jane Wachna, brother Michael Wachna, five nieces, a nephew, and their 15 children.
